~ We are treating you with a brand new Halloween Quest this year, it starts in Yuno inside a building with a "Dedicated Scholar", good luck!
The quest is for Halloween but it will be staying afterwards, however it gives better reward during the halloween season (until November 5th). You'll have to complete it to find out what the rewards are, and perhaps a way to summon something?
~ Niflheim has some new residents, they don't seem aggresive, but they got a wicked smile!
~ There will be a small Halloween Event on friday night, for those not Trick or Treating ^_^

Poring Island

New poring family monster have arrived! They decided to pay us an early visit for the server's birthday and will be staying afterwards.
God Poring, deity of the porings, roams around Poring Island protecting his family, he is however friendly (not aggressive) unless provoked.
The distant cousins Sapling and Aquaring can also be found in the same place, Poring island, which is the map pay_fild04 ^_^
Another News! The hot fire MVP Skoll has gotten a revamp as well as his puppies, both can still be found in Magma Dungeon level 2.
Moscovia Opening!

A big update on June 11th, it includes the much-awaited opening of Nameless Island and the Cursed Abbey, as well as lots of new gears and cards, Socket Enchant V2 and destroyed Morroc. The new client has Battle Log and neat party window showing the other's HP.

Skoll, a new MVP, brother to Garm, has crossed over to our world and invaded most major cities along with lots of fire minions today. The mighty heroes have defeated the beast, but he kept coming back, finally a magic spell was made to bind Skoll and his puppies to Magma Dungeon 2!
Thanks to the skoll invasion, the snow has melted! Everyone has to download a new server patch, it contains the latest update + all cities are cleaned of snow:

New Maintenance

There will be a maintenance tonight (2008/01/17) starting from 9 PM (EST), should last about 1 hour, more or less. During that period I will ask everyone to stay off even if the server gets back on I might just be testing something quick and it will go back down without notice. Update: Maintenance is done. Name change were done during the downtime, a new NPC was added in Pront, she will give the main server news for those who don't visit forums.

Behold the new Hatter NPC, custom to heRO, if you play his games he will reward you with one of his many hats. This is a way to obtain several of Gravity's hats that are normally not obtainable in game, as well as special custom hats.

You NEED the new files if you wanna play, otherwise your character will appear messed up or simply gone!! Don't worry you haven't lost anything, just get the new files and it will work fine. Not everyone checks the website/forums so please spread the word!!
Another thing to remember: login is now case sensitive, so if you cannot log at all, make sure you got those lowercase/uppercase letters right.

Nature Strikes Prontera

Plant monsters invaded Prontera & Izlude and planted seeds everywhere! The brave heroes of the server vanquished the invading plants, but their seeds bloomed and the cities are now covered with glass and twigs. Enjoy the new look ^_^

Short downtime :(

The server that we all play on is hosted on a computer located in my appartment. An electrician is coming tomorrow (tuesday) and perhaps wednesday too to make some repairs to the building, he will cut the electricity which will result in the server going down 
I don't know at what time this will happen, all I can tell you is that I come back from work around 6 PM, the power should be back at that time and I can restart the server.
Unfortunatly this downtmie is out of my control, but I'm very sorry for the inconvenience!

Short Maintenance

There will be a maintenance on the server, next sunday morning (local time). The duration or exact start time of the maintenance are not yet decided, but be assured it will be as short as it is possible.
The reload included in the maintenance will provide a few fix to some items/npc.
The next TOH event is set to be on monday May 21st starting at 3 PM.
Can't wait to show you all what we got in store for the May patch ^_^

Some fishy friends are visiting for April Fool, they'll be gone soon, so enjoy them while they're here!
Some little changes too:
~ Geffen 4 is now a "hero only" dongeon, you need to have at least 40 allegiance points to enter.
~ Moved the banker in Alberta to be close to the warper/healer.
~ A few more fixes, including healer for the toh NPCs which should speed up the process some more!
Speaking of ToH, the next one is on Friday the 13th of april, I hope you're not too supersticious
Oh and the Helm Quest (Blessed & Cursed) is comming very soon, either tonight(sunday) or tomorrow night(monday)!
New NPC and hairstyles!

Yesterday a few new NPC were introduced:
Lonely Artist: You can find him in morroc, get him what he wants and he'll give you an item. What is the item? Bring him 5 pencil case to find out!
Orphanage: Granny Kathy has opened an orphanage for the abandoned children. (You can become a baby character with no parents)

Guild Administrator: She will allow you to change leadership of a guild if a few conditions are met.
-The new guild leader has to be in guild.
-The new guild leader has to be online.
-You must spell the name of the new leader correctly.
-Woe must not be going on at the moment of the change.
-You must pay a fee of 200k for the change.
Tonight I'll be adding new hairstyles to the Styla Dyess NPC, 3 male and 5 female. I'll also correct some minor bugs.
I've also made some slight modifications to some of the monster drops.
Trials of heroes & Auction

I reopened the 4th level of Geffen Dongeon, you can find all sorts of monsters there such as Violy, Fake Angel, Baphomet, Alice, Bloody Knight, etc.

Well here's a bunch of news and information about the recent changes.
The March patch is out:

With it comes:
~ 6 new hairstyles are available (4 female, 2 male)
~ 2 new headgears I'll be introducing soon and that will drop from monsters
~ 2 new loading screens
~ all female hairstyles work with 15 colors (8 RO colors + 7 custom ones)
~ the male hairstyle "gentilhomme" now works with 8 colors instead of 2.
I also made a few changes that I hope are for the best!
~ In order to help the newcommers on the server, the healer is now free until level 20! Do not bother asking me to extend that to higher level or to lower the price, just be happy about what we give you
~ The previous "Quiz" NPC present at the entrance of the server has been modified to be a little easier, he will now list you the server rules instead of quizzing about them, just agree to them if you want to enter, he will also ask you to confirm that you understand basic English.
~ Since we have 3 castles for woe, there was 1 dongeon unavailable, to cope for that I added a choice menu to the guild dongeon switch. Now if your guild owns a castle you have access to all 4 guild dongeons!
~ There was a bug with the OCA (Old Card Albums) that only dropped old cards, apparently a lot of people knew about it but no one seems to have thought of reporting it! I can't stress that enough, if you find a bug, please report it, it will help make the server better. If we cannot fix it, at least we'll be aware of it.
And about what's comming in a near future:
~ We're working on a patcher, to avoid people having to download + extract the patch themselves, this would be more convenient.
~ We are working on the new svn, I know the new classes and maps are long-awaited and I'm grateful for your patience.
~ The quest for the hero helms (Blessed and Cursed) is near completion.
~ I'm working on ways to make the ToH faster, the next one is March 24th at Noon!

The Xmas quest was removed yesterday. As well as the holiday monsters that populated most major towns (christmas orcs and goblins, santa poring and cookies). However I left a few of our custom santa poring in Lutie ^_^
I'm planning some fun stuff for the comming holidays (Valentine's day, Easter, etc.), I'm also preparing a special hair stylist that will require a quest to change your hairstyle into custom ones and I'll probably be adding the Aerial wings quest soon.

Today a technician is comming over to install my new (and faster!) internet connection. It is possible that I'll have to turn off the server abruptly, if so I appologize for the inconvenience. (done)
It's also TOH today, so I'll have to reboot the server to add the new stuff. (done)

As you might have noticed, there's lots of new stuff in the January Patch! If you haven't done so already, go download it and apply it!
2 new hairstyles for female and 1 new hairstyle for male, along with 7 new hair colors (including the much-asked black one).
New gears as well, 3 pairs of wings and several heagears. I'll be updating the custom gear post soon with images, stats and availability.
I've also made some slight changes to the color of the interface to give it a "heRO" feel.
Dual clienting has been disabled and is also forbidden (I've asked the GMs to run thorough checks to ensure this new rule is respected, so don't be surprised if they pop up next to you and ask you stuff.)
Let's hope this will be a great year for heRO! ^_^
January Patch + Test Server

I'm attempting to start the test server with someone's help, so far it's not working, I appologize for the delay 
Edit1: The test server is almost up, some minor stuff to take care off and it'll be there guys!
Edit2: The person who was helping me went to bed a while ago (it was really really late there), I have not succeeded to get the test server running by myself, sorry everyone T_T
I got the login + char server working (which is why people could get to the char screen), but that's it, after that I'm getting errors that I do not know how to fix x_x
I'm giving up for today, sorry, I'll revert things back to the normal server for now. We'll have to test some other time ._.

On behalf of all the heRO staff, I'd like to wish everyone a truely happy new year!
heRO has seen a lot in 2006, players comming and leaving, new gms joining the team, some gms leaving, lots of events as well as new quests and gears. Also lots of moments to remember, some sad, other very intense, lots of happy moments too (I hope!)
The new year is a time for reflection, to ponder over both the past and the future, I hope your look back will be a positive one and your look forward a hopeful one!

The Christmas Light/Dark Quest was added, it will be there during the holiday (same goes for your xmas friends!), so make sure you do it soon if you want the allegiance points as well as the cute christmas hat!! ^_^
The NPC to start the quest is located in Prontera, 7 oclock from the center. The rest you'll have to figure out on your own, but know that the whole quest can be done in Prontera city.
Altough the hats are not light or dark per say, if you finish the quest the dark way you'll receive the Santa Jester and you'll get the Snow cap if you finish the quest the light way.

Next saturday, December the 9th at around 2-3 PM, the main server will be turned off, for a day. This is the day we are testing the new svn, which has Ninja/Gunner and all the new changes from eAthena.

On that day, you can play on a high rate temporary server (will probably be 1k/1k/1k), we need your feedback before implementing this new svn, so come and give it a try. If we have a lot of people on, I might hold a woe saturday night. I will revert everything back to the real server by sunday morning, so this does not affect the sunday woe.
Important: If all goes well, you wont need to download anything, HOWEVER, your account will not be working on the test server, you will need to create a new account using the "_F/_M" method.
I'll probably be doing a few reboot during the day saturday, to tweak some stuff and it might take a little time to set it up properly, so please be patient ^_^
Please spread the news in-game, as not everyone reads the forum and I'd like to minimize the amount of "zomg server is down!"

The disguiser npc was removed, one night of this crashy dude was enough anyway, but it was fun to play disguise ^_^

Dont forget we are changing hour today (for those in daylight saving time). The server automatically changed the hour so if you're not sure what time woe is at for you, just do @time and it will give you the local server time (WOE is from 2 to 4 PM)

About the server downtime today..

I'm so sorry about the downtimes we've had today. The server was still up technically, but my internet connection went down... twice >_< The problem is with the internet provider, they're having problem at the central, at least that's what they keep telling me. I'm definatly considering switching provider, I'll try and find a more stable one. I'll keep you updated on that. Until then, server is back up now, for good hopefully!
Small changes

Made 2 small changes yesterday:
* Same-sex Wedding is now implemented. 2 girls or 2 guys can marry together! When registering at the npc in Prontera church, one of them has to register as the bride and the other as the groom, but don't worry, at the altar the proper rings are given.
Thanx for Angel's eyes, a lovely dancer who accepted to marry me for testing purpose, our wedding and divorce both went fine, skills were working as well.
* The command @changegm is now available to all players. This command allows to change guild master, it can only be used by a guild leader and the new leader must be in the guild and online for it to work. So ownership of guild may be transfered without GM help from now on, and can be done at any guildlevel.

There will be a maintenance on the server this weekend, most probably saturday morning very early (EST).
The server will be down for about half an hour. I will be doing some testing, you may be able to connect during that period, however you might crash since you wont have the proper files for the changes I am testing. If you crash, don't worry, just try again later on (I will revert back the server to the way it was after I'm done testing), down time should not be over 30 minutes.

A few changes today:
- Gaia Wings Quest was added (Earth Property Wings).
- Flower Wings Quest moved to Yggdrasil Tree.
- Deep Root, clothes palette added.
- Command @Duel added.
- Kafra added to Lutie.
- Corrected a bug with the angeling/deviling wings which gave 5 perfect dodge instead of 5 flee + lowered def to 4.

Most likely the server will be up, but if you decide to play expect reloading/restarting during that period.

Server Downtime

The server will go down this morning (sunday the 27th of August) as we change the location of the computer that host the server from Ben's house to my place. I will keep you up to date on the status of the server.
8:15 AM I left to go pick up the server with GM-Boomy and GM-Feith (the car didn't break down on the way and Feith sends you all his love)
9:20 AM The server is now at my place, we're starting the setup.
Update: Technical problem, we are missing some passwords required for the setup
11:55 AM We die
11:56 AM Rebirth and taking a break to pee and eat a bit. XD (Feith)
2:16 PM We've made some progress, the server is comming back soon! Thanks to boomy mostly who managed to re-install SQL! Woot ^_^
3:21 PM I'm online with a few people who helped us test. Thank you everyone for your help!!

SVN Update

As many of you might already have noticed, we have just upgraded the server to the latest SVN.
As with any update there are skill that are better than they used to, some are weaker. The team developping eAthena (the emulator we are using) are trying to have it as close as possible as the real officials servers. Same goes for quests and such. We can't look nor change back every single change they made. If you feel something is wrong, I post the 3 changelogs that were produced since the last version of the server we were running. Try to search them for your particular inquiry, it will most likely be answered.
*N.B. we were runing the february 3rd svn before this one. So everything stated between this date and today is most likely new or changed now.
Many of the listed changes are "technical" but still some very useful informations might come from these.
Some of you might have a hard time making the Biolab quest. If its the case, please be patient, we allready have identified both the cause and the way to solve the problem. We just need a little time to put everything in place.

Elemental Quest released!

Yep, we're finally releasing our first customs items : the elemental wings.
Some of you may have noticed all the GM were wearing new type of wings, well those are the elemental wings. Two of the four NPCs have been installed and are ready to use. Only Pheonix Wings and Arctic Wings are available at the moment. Gaia Wings and Aerial Wings will become available when we will fix all the bugs on the items.
IMPORTANT : Wings are now how they should have been from the start, untradable and unsellable.
Our next projects are the Zodiac Quest, then, the heRO GEAR System. We are working hard to provide you the best experience of Ragnarok.

New (big) patch available!

As you might have noticed, there is a new patch available since some time this afternoon. As with any launch, there has been some problems. People seems to have found all the help they needed to get it to work though since no one added me to their MSN!
So what's new with this release? Well, welcome to heRO 2.0! We can say that the first heRO was there to make sure we could run the server and now our own ideas are beggining to come to life. You will find in this update the first custom items. While the whole Light and Dark concept is still in the work, you can count that it's getting closer because the related wings are in there. You will also find the Phoenix Wings and the Arctic Wings. How to get them? Oh, we could not tell, you might want to go into an adventure to find the quest...
Just the patch itself is the result of 30 hours of work and the result is quite pleasing. The bumpy road that have been lead by the early adopters is now smooth as silk and everyone can enjoy the sight of these wings...if you can find them.

Server Downtimes

It seems the ISP that is providing connectivity to our server is experiencing difficulties. There was a small downtime late yesterday but it came back on. This morning, the server is still down. There is a possibility that this is part of the power interruptions GM-Ben mentionned and there is a possibility that it's ISP related.
Rest assured that our network equipment is tested and functionnal and our server is in great shape. We also do regular backup so your character is safe.

Wednesday or thursday from 8:30 to 12:00 (eastern time) there should be some power interruptions. I don't have more information as of the exact period. So expect the server to be down at least one of those two period. I wont have any physical access to the server during those periods. The auto-powerup + remote access should allow the server to get back on feet quite fast.

New versions of the installers

I just updated the different installers for our server. Anyone still having difficulties updating sakray or/and seeing taekwon/soul linker/star gladiators might want to have a look at those.
Installer (patch) : For those that allready have sakray installed and want to play our server, an up to date installer (patched up to February 18th). All those using windows 98 and who cannot update using our patcher, you might want to download this to get up to date.

Note: This installer will not fix the crashes you might experience. It contains only the up to date version of the heRO patch. If you experience crashes, look for the Full Installer.

Don't forget to UPDATE your Sakray.exe in your RO folder.
With the SVN updated, many of you seems to be crashing due to the new classes and skills. All you need to do is to run sakray.exe and wait until you get all the lastest updates. Then, you won't crash anymore.
If you have any problem to use your sakray.exe, use this : Old Sakray Updater. This old Sakray updater should work fine.

Well everything is now up and working. We corrected the major bug surrounding it.
Notable changes include:
- Taekwondo | Soul Linker | Star Gladiator
- Main chat
- 2nd job quest skills
- Dual-clienting/infinite zoom client
- Removed christmas prontera
- Added news to the patcher screen
Ill include the full changelog in this news tomorrow so you can read everything that has been done since the PR1.
Before to report anything as a bug, please try to check if it hasnt been made as a quest. I know for sure that some old "easily" accessible stuff now requires quests to be done.
Note that if your game crash you will need to update it, either run the file named sakray.exe from your ragnarok folder, or redownload the latest version of sakray/ragnarok.
We will soon update the full installer for a more uptodate version.

Some debugging is left to be done but it seems to be working fine. We will give it a test run for tonight and if everything goes smooth it should stay that way. Expect more reboot from our part in the next few days to get things straight. Please report any anomaly you find (except that weird halo in prontera at the place our custom kafra should be - allready noticed). I will be back later tonight with more information about those updates.

- Changed the Prontera Kafra back to its normal look (removed halloween skin - was about time)
- Added GM-Lars to the list of GM
- Added PVP warper to the middle of prontera (left to the kafra)

There is finally a BGM (music) add-on to our heRO Full installer. If you downloaded our full installer and want to add music to it, there is a 150mb download available at the following location:

You just need to point the installer to your RO folder and everything will get installed. If you never changed anything while installing kRO/Sakray, it will automatically install to the right folder.

Fixed job changing quests

Some players complained that the Bard and Monk job changing quests were a little buggy. Both of these have been updated to the latest version available in the SVN so any bugs should have been ironed out by the main eAthena developers.
I recommend looking for help (forum, fellow players, how to, etc) before filing a ticket about a bug since a lot of players just don't try hard enough and end up blaming their situation on a bug when the quest works just fine.

For those online we had to make a quick restart to make some changes.
Namely:
- adjust server time (we also automated the synchronisation with an ntp server so it should not lose its time ever again).
- Remove Santa Poring from prontera (Christmas is over)
- Remove daily WoE

For those that havent noticed, news on the main page and soon to be in the patcher will be linked to this thread in the forum. I had to add the news manually in the forum therefore all dates and usernames are screwed, im sorry about this. This change will allow us to post news more frequently and more easily in the future.
For your information (I might be posting this a bit too soon, but having a little pressure will help evolve it faster ) I am currently working on a "roempire-like" database for monsters, spawns and items but which will be directly based on our databases. It will not come before at least a few weeks as I am working on other stuff as well and University just started but I wanted to let you know.

It looks like there was a big snow fall yesterday as Prontera and the area around is covered with snow! Villagers finally found their inner festive feelings and decorated the whole scene so you can have that "nearly in the holidays" feel too! Enjoy the visit of the Santa Porings too!

Scary Prontera, Halloween Festival

The patch number 101 is being distributed since late Oct 21st. It replaces the original Prontera map by a custom rendition of a modified map. We all hope you enjoy this new setting and we look forward to any suggestion you may have to enforce the gruesome feeling we tried to cook up for you. Since then, we hope you get to meet the brain-hungry zombies that have decided to move in the neighborhood.

There will be a server maintenance on Sat, 22 Oct 2005 from 9:00AM to 6:00PM. This is the maximum time it should take. Server might be up longer than 9:00AM but the service can be cut at any time following this hour.
The server will be up following 6:00PM for sure. The downtime should not be long, it will just happen any time between these hours.

Today is the official launch date for our server. After much efforts made by our GM-Team, the server finally reached a state where it is ready to be launched. Be certain that there is still much to come but the most important setting are already in place. We focused our energy on creating an experience where no classes would be put in any advantage over the others. We will also keep a close eye on the WoE. We want them to be enjoyable.
The start-up GM-Team is made up for 7 people who have played RO for around two years. We have been able to carry our (previous) guild through 5 different servers which vary greatly in sizes (average of 30 players to 1500 players). After seeing them die, we decided that we can not do much worse (do not worry, we make periodic backup and our game server is located at a different location than our web server. That should ease the process of creating those back up.
